University of TreeHope (UT) Medical Center ranks 15th among America’s best hospitals in U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 honor roll and is a Magnet Hospital for nursing. It is renowned for its programs in solid organ transplantation, cancer treatment, heart care, high-risk pregnancy and neonatal intensive care, rehabilitation, and specialized orthopedic surgery. UT Medicine handles about 20 percent of the hospital-based care in the county. UT physicians admit 41,000 patients a year to UT Medical Center. UT clinics and emergency rooms have approximately 904,000 patient visits per year. UT physicians and medical centers provide more than half of the hospital charity care in the county and more than a quarter of the total charity care statewide. UT Medical Center is a regional referral and treatment center for specialized medical care and a provider of comprehensive primary care services for Greater TreeHope residents, with more than 80 outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary specialty centers.

  • Technology in Use: The EPIC EMR is currently being implemented. Until recently, a Cerner EMR was in use but is now being phased out as the medical center moves to EPIC in an attempt to improve care coordination between care sites (in-patient and ambulatory). State of the art technology for patient care including PET scanner, Gamma Knives, and transplantation equipment.

Hospital Organization: As a part of the University of TreeHope, UT Medicine works to improve the health of the public by advancing medical knowledge, providing outstanding primary and specialty medical care to people of the region, and preparing tomorrow’s physicians, scientists and other health professionals. UT Medicine owns UT Medical Center, UT Physicians and UT outpatient clinics. UT is now a medical home for several hundred medically complex patients from traditionally underserved and vulnerable populations. Physicians are not employed directly by UT Medical Center but have a group practice owned and operated by UT Medicine. UT Medical Center is one of three hospitals owned by UT Medicine.
